The Great South Run!

Today I ran the Great South run for the first time and surprisingly I managed to complete it without too many complications 😀

Luckily me and my mates who ran it today, we all managed. to get the times we were aiming for. I was a bit out of practice, so I aimed for around 1hour 30min - and I fell just within the time.

I used to run quite a lot about 5 years ago, but just kinda fell out of the routine and then never really found the motivation to get back into it. It made me a bit nervous knowing that I'd only had a couple weeks left until todays run, and I hadn't done any training 🤦‍♂️

So I went for my first run, which was only 2 miles, but my legs were in that much pain I could barely walk back home ... That's when I began to get a little scared about how I'd manage 10 miles ...

But after recovering and doing a couple more training runs, reaching 4.5miles without much pain, I knew I'd be alright. I assume the memory of how to run just sort of come back which was handy.

The Great South Run is a great experience, with around 20,000 people attending. The atmosphere is wonderful, with people cheering, DJs and bands playing along the route, and best of all - the free jelly babies that the crowd were handing out 😋

At the end of the run, we received our medal and a weird collection of items in a goody back. It had the usual T-shirt, bottle of water and foil blanket. But also had a box of 40 tea bags and a sache of flaxseed 🤷‍♂️

I assume they were just some odd bits from the sponsors of the event - Along with the main sponsor AJ Bell.

To finish off the day, I treated myself to a tasty 1/2 pounder cheeseburger and a couple of pints at the local Wetherspoons 🍻

We've already signed up for next years run, so lets hope I manage to get some more training in and beat my time!
